TALIZE SAYEGH – Founder and Executive Producer

The Hollywood Brazilian Film Festival is a non-profit organization founded by Talize Sayegh. Talize Sayegh is a Brazilian with 20 years´ experience in Los Angeles, whose own LA based Lis Productions specializes in the production and promotion of Brazilian culture. Among other events produced are the Hollywood Palladium Brazilian Carnaval for several years, and musical events such as Paralamas do Sucesso. Talize also participated in the LA Latino Film Festival production for the past five years, and worked for the Rio Film Festival for several years as well. She produced her first film, Vendedores, starring Jonathan Haagensen, Natalia Lage and Ricardo Tozzi, and served as production consultant for producer Marcelo Floriao in Now Boarding (Embarque Imediato), a new film starring Marilia Pera, Jonathan Haagensen and Jose Wilker, directed by Allan Fiterman.


MARCELO FLORIAO –
Executive Producer

Marcelo Floriao - executive producer of the HBFF - is another Brazilian with over 20 years´ experience in Hollywood. A film graduate of Columbia College (Hollywood), Marcelo started his career freelancing in several major studios, such as Paramount, MGM, Disney and Fox, working for producers like Lindsay Doran (Ang Lee´s Sense and Sensibility), Don Simpson (Thief of Hearts) and Costa Gavras (Betrayal). Marcelo also produced theatre in Los Angeles, and his first feature film as producer and screenwriter is Now Boarding (Embarque Imediato), starring Marilia Pera, Jonathan Haagensen and Jose Wilker, directed by Allan Fiterman, coproduced by Juliana de Carvalho and Hilton Kauffmann. Marcelo is an executive producer of the Artivist Film Festival in Los Angeles, and produces film festivals in London, Lisbon, Tokyo and Mexico, in addition to being V.P. of worldwide distribution at Showscan Entertainment, an LA based producer/distributor of 3D films.

Renata

RENATA CARVALHO - Executive Producer – Brasil

With over 10 years in marketing&publicity, communications, and event production, Renata is a graduate of FAAP in Sao Paulo, with a master degree in executive production (Film&TV). Just to mention some of the projects she was involved with: the Lancome campaign (Paris), Pfeizer (Brazil), Toyota (Los Angeles), Redbull (New York), BMW (Germany), Unilever Omo (Brazil) and the film BB 200 Years (in Rio). In the film area, she was involved in production at the Berlinale 2003 and the San Francisco Film Festival, as well as working on documentaries such as The Music Tree (Brazil) and Liberdade Station (Japan).
For the fashion industry, she participated in publicity campaigns for British publication Dazed and Confused in world cities such as Hong Kong, London, Lisbon, Porto, Seville and Rome. In Brazil she was involved with promotional events during Carnival, such as the Nova Schin VIP Lounge and the Brahma VIP Lounge, as well as the Corporate Bradesco event for the Beijing Olympics. Her own production company is Take Produções Artísticas.

 

 

Laura Malin

LAURA MALIN - Festival Contributor

Laura Malin is a novelist, producer and screenwriter for the last 11 years, having studied at Berkeley and represented in Los Angeles. Ms. Malin´s most recent works include scripts such as: Chasing Bohemia (in pre-production, director Stephen Hopkins), Journey To The End of The Night (released in 2006 - director Eric Eason and co-produced by Brazilian O2), Now Boarding (director Allan Fiterman, to be released in 2009), and The Thread (in pre-production with Gullane Films). Ms. Malin also free-lances for main Brazilian television channels, creating and writing series and also publishes her own works.

DANIEL DREIFUSS - Creative Producer

Born in Scotland and raised in Brazil, Daniel has always had a love of film. Having lived in LA for the past five years, Daniel completed his MFA in producing at the American Film Institute in 07'. He began his career at the Motion Picture Association of America, both domestically and internationaly. He has also worked for Paramount Pictures.

In addition to "serving as the Creative Producer for the Hollywood Brazilian Film Festival, Daniel has also served as head of the Juri that defined the finalists in the '1st Annual Latin American Feature Film Project Competition" for the Festival do Rio 08'.

Daniel is working on a slate of projects that includes Kentucky Rhapsody, A Girl A Gun, Import-Export, Alone, Castlestalker and the adaptation of Thai Girl, one of the best selling English language novels in Thailand. Daniel also holds the rights and is developing a WWII Holocaust project based on a true story.
   
GRASI BASTOS - Coordinator of Communications and Marketing
 

Grasi Bastos, Brazilian advertising professional, currently residing in Los Angeles. Bachelor in Social Communication with an emphasis in Advertising and Marketing at the FURB/SC Brazil, she has been working for 10 years long in advertising and video production.

In Brazil she worked in marketing at RBS TV, the largest affiliate of Rede Globo Television. Accumulates in various partnerships signed scripts, productions and projects for the fundraising. In California she is a Director of Art and Planning in Advertising at Soul.Art Design and Communication founded last year in partnership with her husband, the designer Felix R. Pires.

   
BIANCA HALPERN - Production Coordinator
 

Bianca Halpern was born and raised in São Paulo, Brasil. With a Bachelor in Advertising and Marketing Bianca moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of becoming a filmmaker.

In Los Angeles she studied at the New York Film Academy where she performed as a Producer of various short films and directed her first short film. In 2004 Bianca started an MFA at Chapman University. She graduated with an emphasis in Cinematography and served as a DP for several projects, as well as collaborating in other films in every other position. With her technical knowledge and her willingness of making films in Brasil and in the US, she will be responsible for the Seminars that will happen at the Hollywood Brazilian Film Festival, with the hopes to make the bridge between the two countries even stronger.

She is currently involved as a Cinematographer in a Documentary and a TV Show that are scheduled to shoot in 2009.
